WordPress vs Blogger

As a problogger I’m always asked the question “Is WordPress better than Blogger as a blogging platform?”. My answer  is “Yes”.However, this does not mean that every blogger have to use WordPress. Depending on the purpose of blogging, bloggers may prefer Blogger. Let's make a comparison of these two blogging platforms.

  • Blogger is much better than WordPress in terms of usability. You can create your Blogger account and have your first post published in only 5 minutes. You may even prefer a theme amongst tons of free themes.
  • Installing and getting used to WordPress take much more time. Having said that, once you get familiar with it, you don't even dream of another blogging platform.
  • With Wordpress you can not only get free themes, but also additional “plugins” and advanced tools. This lets you extend Wordpress. It is not possible with Blogger.
  • Google owns the content in Blogger accounts. Even though you have your own domain, the content stays in Google's database. With WordPress you own both the domain and content.
  • Even though many people do believe that Google tend to favor Blogger accounts, this is not true. With a WordPress blog you can ping much more blog directories than you can do with a Blogger blog. WordPress is much better blogging platform in terms of SEO and traffic.
  • You can even turn your blog into an e-commerce website with a WordPress blog. Blogger accounts are not so flexible.
  • Having a Google Adsense account is easier with a Blogger account.
